Dan Krommenhoek

Program Manager

Professional Speciality:

Integration of mechanical design, advanced materials, thermal design, fluid flow and systems. Thermophotovoltaics, thermoelectrics, acoustics, nuclear reactor design, advanced energy sources, lasers, radiolysis.

Education

BSME Lafayette College, Easton, PA, 1964
MSME Cornell University, Ithaca, NY 1966
P.E. in Engineering, New York

Present Position

Mr. Krommenhoek is responsible for thermoelectric generator development and modules with quantum well thermoelectric materials. He is currently working on the 10 kW generator and various other thermoelectric generator developments. He brings extensive experience in direct energy conversion and advanced concepts to this work.

1998-2003: Vice President, Photon Emissive Energy Conversion (PEEC), Quantum Group Inc., San Diego, CA Mr. Krommenhoek was responsible for development of technologies and products using narrow bands of photons. Key projects included selective emitters, thermophotovoltaics, eye safe laser, covert illuminators and welding of plastics with infrared light sources. The eye safe laser project coordinated work with phosphate glass companies, optical research companies, national labs, and the Army. Welding of plastics was developed into a production machine used for joining over one million carbon monoxide sensor parts per year.

1993-1998: Manager, Advanced Concepts Energy Conversion, Lockheed Martin. Developed and screened numerous advanced reactor and energy conversion systems including thermophotovoltaics, thermoelectrics, alkali metal, Brayton, Stirling, etc. Built and tested modules and prototypes to set technical direction.

1980-1993: Leadership and management positions including Advanced Concepts, Engineering Design Services, Nuclear Reactor Safety at General Electric. Developed an advanced reactor control system, performed nuclear reactor experiments, developed control devices safety, and solved acoustic issues.
